From Conception to Reality

September
. The word is based on the Latin septem ~ meaning "seven" and is the ninth Month of the year. The number seven is important in various religions and studies, it conveys completeness and perfection. September is known as the Month of birthing and the transition between drastic occurrences in the Seasons. Last Month, which was August, we focused on novel emergence of ideas and concepts, new and renewed visions, dreams and goals. This Month we will maintain a focal point of the reality of birthing these things which we have previously conceptualized. They are now coming into fruition!

I cannot address the subject of birthing without thinking of the incomparable Role of a Mother in this process. Mothers are the canals through which life emerges. Consequently, she is to be admired, adored, respected and revered. She is piety and must be treated with deference, for without her existence, we would not understand the weighty importance of accrouchement, "the time (process) or act of giving birth."

From the moment that a woman conceives, her mind, body and spirit begin to transform. Her every thought includes the life growing within her, altering everything about her. Consciously and unconsciously she is adapting, making ready for this new thing within. As with the pregnancy, the process that she enters into to birth this baby, has its own stages and activities. There are stages to the Labor and each stage serves a distinct purpose. Distinctively there are major changes occurring to her body, including: slow and steady dilation of the cervix; shifting and alterating of the pelvic bones and joints. In addition, the surrounding muscles, ligaments and nerves are stretched throughout the birthing process. Often this stage of birthing includes fractures and dysfunctions of various parts of the pubic area. I have read that coccyx fractures; pubic symphysis and uterine prolapse are common occurrences during the birthing.

Also, it is said that childbirth is as close to death as a woman gets in order to produce LIFE. I share this not to invoke fear, but to remind us that giving birth is often uncomfortable and painful. Yet, at the appointed time, that dream materializes and ultimatelly brings so much joy!

As we bring forth this Month, let us remember that there is a rhythm, a process and a posture to birthing. Are you ready to be uncomfortable? Are you in position to push and deliver?
