An Honorable Women with an Honorable History
MARCH is "National Women's History Month. I read that since 1995, an annual proclamation from each President, designates this. In addition, the National Women's History Alliance selects and published the Theme each year. For 2021, the Theme captures the spirit of Women in these most difficult and challenging times. However, I have chosen to share the distinct impact of the history of Rev. Dr. Essie C. Greene, who embodied the essence of a Woman who life journey continues to enhance lives to this very day.
Rev. Essie C. Greene was born January 20, 1940 and transitioned from the physical realm on March 14, 2011. She received her early education in her hometown of Seaford, De; graduated from William C. Jason Comprehensive High School and at the age of 60, astonished herself and others by receiving an Associate's Degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, MD. She also received her Doctorate Degree in Theology from LOGOS Bible Institute.
In 1980, Dr. Greene accepted the Call to the Office of Pastor under the leadership of her husband, Apostle James F. Greene. In 1990, Dr. Greene established the Salisbury Revival Center Christian Academy, where she served as Principal. During the time that she pastored the Salisbury revival Center, she also established the Agape Outreach Ministries, which was an outlet through which services were offered to the Community.
Dr. Greene epitomized the Gift of Motherhood with grace and dignity. She was the standard by which many women who knew her, governed themselves. A true Queen Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Community Activist, Preacher, Teacher and Confidant.
Rev. Dr. Essie C. Greene had the heart of a true Servant. She never met anyone that she did not want to help and try to make better. A singer whose voice reached into the very soul of those who heard it. As family, we continue to be approoached, ten years after her death, by individuals sharing stories of how she touched and changed their lives.
Her body may be gone, but her voice continues to reverberate through the portals of time. It is a priviledge to honor this treasure during "National Women's History Month."
