A.M.C. Cares

Recently, I saw something on Social Media that really touched my heart. A Assisted Care Facility in Arizona shared some pictures of Residents who were looking for Pen Pals, nationwide. Each participating Resident, shared a little about themselves and their hobbies, likes, etc. I thought that was awesome! So, of course I responded. I wrote to three of the Residents and it felt great.

I know first-hand the experience of being a Resident in a Nursing Home/Rehab Facility. On two separate occasions, I was admitted there following complications from Spinal Surgeries. Unable to walk or talk, it was extremely disconcerting and frightening.

There are so many memories from those experiences that still unnerve me, but one positive experience still brings me joy. I was lying in bed, feeling very alone and depressed. Grieving the loss of BOTH Parents and all that those deaths entailed. I had overheard a Physical Therapist say that I may never walk or talk clearly ever again.

At a moment when I was literally in tears, a Staff Member entered my room. She noticed me crying and said, "I'll be right back." When she returned, she had a Manicure Set and lots of pretty bottles of nail polish. I wiped my tears and smiled, BIG. This wonderful lady gave me a Manicure and I picked out a color of polish that I liked. That experience made my whole week!

My Sister brought her Tablet for me to keep so that I could stay connected. Another friend brought me a Journal and pretty pens and books. These gifts made everything better.

I have asked some of the "A Mother's Cry" Supporters to join me in writing some Residents at our local Nursing Home. Receiving mail makes things so much better. Feeling forgotten and abandoned is a horrible feeling.

Would you join us in sending correspondence and gifts? Your assistance would be appreciated.
